Zendaya responds to fake wedding images circulating online
US actress Zendaya has laughed off a flood of AI-generated photos that falsely depict her marrying fellow actor Tom Holland, telling talk show host Jimmy Kimmel that even close friends were fooled by the convincing fakes.
How the images spread
Dozens of digitally altered photos surfaced earlier this month, showing the couple exchanging vows in what appeared to be Lake Como, Italy. The images, shared by creators on social media platforms like X and Instagram, included high-profile guests such as Robert Downey Jr. and former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
One widely liked image featured Holland holding a Spider-Man mask, while another showed Zendaya in a bridal gown. Though some posts included disclaimers noting the images were AI-generated, many viewers overlooked them.
Zendaya's reaction
During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Zendaya recounted how fans and even people in her personal circle congratulated her on the supposed wedding. She clarified, "While I was just going about my day, people were like, 'Oh my God, your wedding photos are gorgeous.' And I was like, 'Babe, they're AI. They're not real.'"
When Kimmel asked if she and Holland were actually married, she joked, "Really? I haven't seen any of them."
The actress added that some friends and family were upset they hadn't received invitations, highlighting how believable the images were.
Speculation and rumors
Rumors about the couple's marital status gained traction after Zendaya's stylist, Law Roach, told Access Hollywood that the wedding had "already happened" and the media had "missed it."
Further fueling speculation, Zendaya was spotted wearing a gold band on her left hand at the recent Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week.
Real-life relationship and upcoming projects
Zendaya and Holland, who met in 2017 on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, are set to reunite on screen in their fourth superhero film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, this summer. Holland teased the release of a special trailer for the movie on Wednesday via Instagram.
The couple will also star together in Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey later this year. Additionally, Zendaya is featured in the highly anticipated Dune 3, with its trailer expected to drop this week.
