White House condemns Hamill's post
The White House has labeled actor Mark Hamill a "sick individual" after he shared an AI-generated image depicting President Donald Trump in a shallow grave, accompanied by the caption "if only."
Image details and deletion
The post, uploaded to Hamill's Bluesky account, showed Trump lying with his eyes closed beside a headstone inscribed "Donald J. Trump 1946-2024." Hamill later removed the image and issued an apology, stating he had intended to wish Trump "the opposite of dead" but acknowledged the post may have been inappropriate.
Hamill's statement
In a now-deleted message on X (formerly Twitter), Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, wrote that Trump "should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes." He added Trump should live to see himself "disgraced in the history books, forevermore."
White House response
The White House press team fired back on X, calling Hamill's remarks unacceptable and linking them to broader political tensions. "These Radical Left lunatics just can't help themselves," the statement read. "This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President."
Recent threats and public reactions
Last month, authorities reported a man fired a shotgun outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner in an apparent assassination attempt targeting Trump. Following the incident, Melania Trump and other officials demanded ABC dismiss comedian Jimmy Kimmel after he joked in a parody sketch that the first lady had a "glow like an expectant widow."
Mrs. Trump condemned Kimmel's "hateful and violent rhetoric," urging ABC to take a stand. Kimmel responded on-air, arguing his joke referenced the couple's age difference and called for a broader conversation about reducing inflammatory language, suggesting the president should lead by example.
Previous assassination attempts
In 2024, Trump was shot in the ear during a Pennsylvania rally, with the gunman killed by Secret Service agents. The same year, another man was arrested after being found hiding in bushes near a Trump golf course, armed and later convicted of attempted assassination.
