UK act prepares for Eurovision final in Vienna
Sam Battle, performing as Look Mum No Computer, will represent the UK in Saturday's Eurovision Song Contest final, competing against 24 other nations in the competition's 70th edition.
Family pride ahead of performance
Battle's sister, Jodie Bartle, expressed overwhelming pride as her brother prepares to take the stage. "Sam's always been destined for something massive, and I'm so happy that he's finally been given the opportunity for the world to see how unbelievably talented he is," she told The Meta Times.
Jodie admitted she hadn't expected Eurovision to be his breakthrough moment but called it "absolutely epic" that her brother's five-week-old son, Max, will one day say, "My dad's done Eurovision."
A musical journey from Cambridgeshire to Vienna
Born Sam Bartle, the musician gained attention for his unconventional electronic instruments, such as combining organ pipes with Furby toys and repurposed Game Boy consoles. Early in his career, he performed across Cambridgeshire as a solo artist and with bands Yellow Snow and Zibra, catching the eye of BBC Introducing.
The song behind the spectacle
Battle will perform his electro-pop track Eins, Zwei, Drei, written in just 12 hours. Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Dotty McLeod, he said, "I am just going to try my hardest for the UK, for me and my mates and family."
"All I want for him is to just enjoy it. We're proud of him no matter what, and he should be proud of himself as well. The song is good enough to get points, and hopefully the world agrees."
