Four detained in London counter-terrorism raids
British authorities arrested one Iranian and three dual British-Iranian nationals on Wednesday, accusing them of aiding a foreign intelligence service. The Metropolitan Police said the operation centered on suspected surveillance of Jewish community locations and individuals in the capital.
Investigation details
The four men, aged 22 to 55, were detained under the National Security Act, a 2023 law designed to modernize counter-espionage measures against foreign interference. Police conducted searches in Barnet, Watford, and Wembley, with operations still ongoing.
A separate group of six men, aged between 20 and 49, were also arrested in Harrow on suspicion of assisting an offender. All ten remain in custody.
Official statements
Commander Helen Flanagan, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing London, described the arrests as part of a "long-running investigation" to disrupt "malign activity." She urged the public, particularly the Jewish community, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
"We understand the public may be concerned, in particular the Jewish community, and as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant."

Government and community response
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the UK's security services as "world-leading," affirming their use of "the full range of tools and powers" to counter threats. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, speaking on Good Morning Britain, labeled Iran "the biggest state sponsor of terrorism globally" and warned of its influence within UK society.
The Community Security Trust, a charity protecting Britain's Jewish community, thanked police and stated, "Security is strong across the Jewish community."
Broader context
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer condemned Iran's recent retaliatory strikes in the Middle East, calling the regime a "direct threat" to UK-based dissidents and the Jewish community. He revealed that Iran had backed "more than 20 potentially lethal attacks on UK soil" in the past year alone.
