Fury ends retirement with April fight against Makhmudov
Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will step back into the ring on 11 April in the United Kingdom, marking his first match since retiring following a defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
The 37-year-old Briton, who announced his latest comeback earlier this month, will take on Russian contender Arslanbek Makhmudov in a bout set to be streamed globally on Netflix.
Fury's career and recent setbacks
Fury, known for his dynamic career and multiple retirements, holds a professional record of 34 wins (24 knockouts), two losses, and one draw. His two defeats came in consecutive fights against Usyk in 2024, prompting his initial retirement announcement last December.
Prior to those losses, Fury enjoyed two reigns as world champion, first defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to claim the WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO titles, and later securing the WBC belt in 2020 with a victory over Deontay Wilder. Despite his success, he has never held undisputed champion status.

Makhmudov: The opponent and stakes
Makhmudov, 36, enters the fight with a record of 21 wins from 23 bouts, including a recent victory over British fighter Dave Allen in October. While not as high-profile as some of Fury's previous opponents, Makhmudov is considered a formidable and dangerous challenger.
Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, expressed full support for the fighter's return, stating on X: "Tyson wants to return to the throne and I'm 100% behind him to do just that."
Netflix deal and Fury's global appeal
The decision to broadcast the fight on Netflix, which boasts over 325 million subscribers worldwide, underscores Fury's status as one of boxing's most marketable stars. Despite being promoted by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions-typically aligned with Dazn-Warren has allowed Fury to step outside that partnership for this event.
Fury's ability to draw attention beyond traditional boxing audiences has made him a unique figure in the sport. His last UK appearance was in December 2022, when he defeated Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to retain the WBC title.
Saudi influence and future prospects
The fight is backed by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority, under the Ring Magazine banner. While the number of high-profile bouts in Riyadh may be declining, Saudi Arabia's financial and strategic influence in boxing remains significant.
Should Fury secure a victory, speculation about his next steps will intensify. A long-awaited bout against Anthony Joshua, initially expected in 2026, has been complicated by Joshua's recovery from a car accident in December. In the interim, discussions have emerged about a potential match against WBO champion Fabio Wardley later this year.
What to expect
While fans may have hoped for a more prominent opponent, Makhmudov presents a credible threat that demands Fury's full focus. A performance reminiscent of his best form should be sufficient for a comfortable win, setting the stage for his next title pursuit.
