Trump-branded tower to rise on Gold Coast
The Trump Organization has revealed plans to construct a 335-meter skyscraper in Queensland, which its executives claim will become Australia's tallest building. The $1 billion project, set to break ground in August, marks the company's first official venture in the country.
Project details and timeline
Developed in partnership with Altus Property Group, the 91-story Trump International Hotel & Tower will feature 285 hotel rooms, 272 luxury apartments, high-end retail spaces, and an exclusive beachfront club. Eric Trump, the organization's executive vice president, described the development as bringing "world-class luxury" to Australia.
Construction is scheduled to begin next month, with completion expected in the coming years. The tower will surpass London's Shard in height but faces competition from a proposed 101-story twin-tower project nearby, which would stand 50 meters taller.
Controversy and conflicts of interest
The announcement arrives amid ongoing scrutiny of the Trump Organization's business dealings, particularly its potential conflicts with Donald Trump's presidential role. Critics argue the company benefits from his political influence, despite his pledge to distance himself from its operations during his second term.
A 2021 congressional report accused Trump of exaggerating profits at his Washington, D.C., hotel, which reportedly lost over $70 million during his first term. The report also alleged he concealed conflicts of interest related to his ownership and financial guarantees. The Trump Organization denied wrongdoing, calling the findings "misleading."
Global expansion of the Trump brand
The Gold Coast project joins a portfolio of over 20 Trump-branded properties worldwide, spanning the U.S., U.K., Middle East, and Asia. The company specializes in luxury real estate and hospitality, often licensing its name to third-party developers for hotels, residential buildings, and golf courses.
Forbes estimates Donald Trump's net worth has nearly doubled since 2023, though the organization's business practices continue to draw criticism.
