Incident near Newark Airport
A truck driver sustained minor injuries on Sunday after a United Airlines Boeing 767 struck his vehicle and a streetlight while approaching Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
Plane lands safely with no passenger injuries
The aircraft, arriving from Venice, Italy, touched down without further incident. None of the 231 passengers or crew members reported injuries, according to officials.
Damage to truck and aircraft
The truck's employer told CBS News, a BBC partner, that one of the plane's tires penetrated the vehicle's window and windshield. Dashcam footage captured the moment of impact, showing shattered glass scattering across the road.
The driver received treatment for glass fragments in his arm and hand but was not seriously hurt.
Investigation launched
United Airlines confirmed it has initiated a comprehensive safety review. The airline stated its crew has been temporarily removed from duty as part of the process. Maintenance teams are assessing the aircraft's damage.
"We will conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident," United Airlines said in a statement.
Authorities respond
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill expressed relief that the plane landed safely and no passengers or crew were harmed.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched an investigator and requested the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from United Airlines.
Location and timing
The collision occurred on a road adjacent to one of the airport's runways as the truck was traveling in the area.
