The Wiggles distance themselves from drug-referencing music video
Australian children's entertainment group The Wiggles has issued a statement clarifying its stance after two members appeared in a music video for a song containing apparent drug references. The clip, promoting musician Keli Holiday's new track Ecstasy, featured Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and his nephew Dominic Field-who portrays the Tree of Wisdom-dancing in the background before being deleted.
Video sparks concern among parents
The since-removed TikTok video, viewed over 92,000 times, included lyrics such as "Hey girl, come on dance with me. You and your pocket full of ecstasy." A spokesperson for The Wiggles told The West Australian the group "does not condone the use of drugs in any form" and that the video was "created without our approval."
In a formal statement, the group addressed concerns raised by parents and professionals: "The content being shared was not created or approved by us, and we have asked for it to be removed." They emphasized that while Keli Holiday-a stage name for musician Adam Hyde-is a friend, the video was produced independently.
Filmed at TikTok Awards event
The footage originated from the TikTok Awards earlier this month, where The Wiggles performed alongside Holiday during his song Dancing2. Holiday later shared the edited clip on TikTok with the caption "The Wiggles get it," repurposing the performance to promote Ecstasy.
A Wiggles spokesperson reiterated that their "family-friendly" stage appearance had been "edited together separately and without our awareness."
Background on The Wiggles and Keli Holiday
Founded in 1991 as a university project, The Wiggles has grown into a global children's entertainment brand. Anthony Field remains the sole original member. Keli Holiday, meanwhile, is the solo act of Hyde, also known for his work in the electronic duo Peking Duk.
The BBC has reached out to Holiday's management for comment.
