Snoop Dogg joins Team USA as honorary coach

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has appointed rapper Snoop Dogg as an 'honorary coach' for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy. The 54-year-old will support American athletes off the field, bringing his signature energy and humor to the role.

Role and responsibilities

In his volunteer position, Snoop Dogg will focus on motivating and celebrating Team USA athletes ahead of and during the Games. The USOPC described his role as one of encouragement and inspiration, leveraging his enthusiasm for the Olympic movement.

USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland praised Snoop Dogg's passion, stating, "His enthusiasm for the Olympic and Paralympic movement is contagious."

Snoop Dogg's Olympic history

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., has been a prominent figure in recent Olympic coverage. During the 2024 Paris Summer Games, he served as a special correspondent for NBC and performed at the handover ceremony for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Reflecting on his new role, Snoop Dogg said,

"Team USA athletes are the real stars-I'm just here to cheer, uplift, and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines. This team represents the best of what sport can be: talent, heart, and hustle. If I can bring a little more love and motivation to that, that's a win for me."

Event details

The 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, from February 6 to 22. Snoop Dogg's involvement adds to the growing trend of celebrity engagement in Olympic events, blending sports and entertainment.

Beyond the Olympics

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Snoop Dogg founded the Snoop Youth Football League in 2005. The initiative provides inner-city children with opportunities to play American football in stadiums across the United States, reflecting his commitment to youth sports and community development.
