Queensland man dies after shark attack near Cassowary Coast
A 39-year-old swimmer has died following a shark attack off northeastern Australia, authorities confirmed on Sunday. The incident marks the second fatal shark-related death in the country in as many weeks.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before midday local time after reports of an attack near a shoal off the Cassowary Coast, located between Cairns and Townsville. The man was pulled from the water but succumbed to his injuries, Queensland Police stated.
Police have not released the victim's identity or specifics about his injuries. A report will be submitted to the coroner, with authorities describing the death as "sudden and non-suspicious."
"As the matter is before the coroner, it would be inappropriate to comment further," police said in a statement.
Recent fatal attacks raise concerns
The Queensland incident follows another fatal shark attack in Western Australia last Saturday. A 38-year-old spearfisher was killed near Perth after being bitten on the legs. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Australia records a higher number of shark encounters compared to many other regions, though fatalities remain relatively rare. According to the Australian Shark-Incident Database, January saw four shark-related incidents nationwide, only one of which proved fatal.
