Guthrie announces return to Today
US television presenter Savannah Guthrie will resume her role on NBC's Today show on 6 April, nearly two months after her mother vanished from her Arizona home.
Emotional first interview
In her first public remarks since Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, Savannah told the programme she felt compelled to return because "it's my family."
"I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I'll belong anymore, but I would like to try," she said.
She described her return as "part of my purpose right now" and acknowledged she would not be the same, adding, "When I smile again, it will be real-my joy will be my protest."
Co-host welcomes her back
Craig Melvin, Guthrie's co-anchor, said the Today team "cannot wait to welcome her back with open arms."
Disappearance details
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of 31 January when relatives dropped her off at her home in Tucson's Catalina Foothills around 21:30 local time (04:30 GMT).
Her absence was first noticed when she missed a Sunday church service. Since then, a nationwide search has uncovered discarded gloves, DNA evidence, and alleged ransom notes, but no major breakthroughs.
Investigation and family pleas
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said authorities believe Nancy Guthrie was "targeted" and know the motive, though they have not disclosed it publicly.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to her safe return, in addition to a $100,000 FBI reward.
Personal anguish
Savannah Guthrie expressed guilt over her mother's disappearance, telling Today, "To think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me... I'd just say: 'I'm so sorry, Mommy.'"
She also noted her mother had been in "tremendous pain" and struggled to walk before the incident, making it unlikely she wandered off.
