Guthrie back on air after mother's disappearance

NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie resumed her role on Today Monday, telling colleagues it was "good to be back" as authorities continue searching for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from her Arizona home in late January.

Warm studio welcome

Guthrie returned to the New York studio for the first time since January 30-two days before her mother was reported missing. Co-anchors noted fans gathered outside in the cold, holding signs of support.

"I'm really feeling the love," Guthrie responded.

Meteorologist Al Roker greeted her with a kiss blown across the set, calling her "my dear."

Case details remain unclear

Investigators suspect Nancy Guthrie was forcibly taken from her Tucson-area home on January 31 but have not disclosed a motive or made arrests. The family offered a $1 million reward in February for information leading to her safe return.

Relatives last saw Nancy when they dropped her off at home the evening of January 31. She missed a virtual church service the next morning and was discovered without her medication.

Balancing work and personal crisis

Guthrie, one of U.S. morning television's most prominent figures, temporarily stepped away from her duties, including NBC's Winter Olympics coverage. She told Today last month that returning to work was "part of my purpose right now," though she wasn't sure she could continue.

"I can't not come back. This is my family," she said.

She also speculated her fame might have played a role in her mother's disappearance, calling the idea "too much to bear."

Faith and routine amid uncertainty

On Easter Sunday, Guthrie shared a video message from Good Shepherd New York, affirming her Christian faith: "I still believe. And so I say with conviction, 'Happy Easter.'"

Back on air Monday, she delivered news segments as usual, covering NASA's Artemis moon mission and the NCAA men's basketball tournament finals.
