Trump seen as key to countering Russian aggression
Poland's President Karol Nawrocki has declared Donald Trump the only global leader capable of stopping Vladimir Putin from menacing Europe, emphasizing the U.S. president's role in resolving the Ukraine war and bolstering regional security.
Poland's security concerns
Nawrocki highlighted Russia's escalating provocations, including last September's drone incursion into Polish airspace-an unprecedented attack involving over 20 unmanned aircraft launched from Belarus and Ukraine. He described the incident as a test of both Poland's defenses and NATO's unity, framing it as part of a broader hybrid war waged by Moscow since 2021.
The Polish leader praised the U.K. for deploying RAF Typhoon jets to help secure Poland's borders, underscoring the gravity of the threat. "We are living in dangerous times," he warned.
Trump's role and transatlantic tensions
Despite recent strains in U.S.-European relations-particularly Trump's controversial remarks about Greenland, which rattled NATO allies-Nawrocki insisted the U.S. remains Europe's security guarantor. He urged European leaders to rally behind Trump's efforts, arguing that a rift with Washington would undermine both economic and military stability.
"What Donald Trump is doing on behalf of Europeans deserves support and great respect."

On Greenland, Nawrocki deferred to bilateral talks between Denmark and the U.S., expressing confidence the dispute would be resolved through NATO diplomacy.
Criticism of Europe's priorities
The Polish president criticized EU leaders for focusing on "ideological issues" like climate policy and migration instead of strengthening defense. While Poland allocates nearly 5% of its GDP to military spending, Nawrocki argued Europe had failed to build resilience against Russian aggression.
U.K.-Poland relations
Nawrocki lauded the U.K.'s support, noting the strategic importance of the one million Poles living in Britain. He thanked British troops stationed in Poland for safeguarding NATO's eastern flank and expressed hope that Poland would be invited to next year's G20 summit, hosted by the U.K.
"I would like to express my deep appreciation for the British soldiers taking responsibility for NATO's Eastern flank."

Context
Nawrocki, a long-standing Trump ally, made these remarks during a U.K. visit for talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other officials. His comments reflect Poland's growing unease over Russian aggression and its reliance on U.S. leadership amid shifting European alliances.
