Patriots extend streak to eight with dominant win over Jets
The New England Patriots secured their eighth consecutive victory-matching their longest winning run since Tom Brady's departure-with a 27-14 triumph over the New York Jets in a key AFC East showdown at Gillette Stadium on Friday.
Henderson's standout performance
Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson delivered a career-defining performance, scoring three touchdowns to spearhead the Patriots' offense. His contributions included two seven-yard rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, followed by a receiving score in the third-capping a 15-play drive with a catch at the back of the end zone.
Quarterback Drake Maye complemented Henderson's efforts, throwing for 281 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-34 passing. "He's stepping up at the right time," Maye said of Henderson. "It's been great to see him grow with every rep. He's got that drive to be elite."
Jets' early lead fades
The Jets struck first when quarterback Justin Fields rushed for a five-yard touchdown on their opening drive. However, the Patriots quickly seized control, with Henderson's back-to-back scores in the second quarter shifting momentum. Fields later connected with John Metchie for a late third-quarter touchdown, but New England's defense held firm.
Kicker Andy Borregales sealed the win with two fourth-quarter field goals, extending the Patriots' lead to 27-14. The victory moves New England to 9-2, solidifying their grip atop the division, while the Jets fall to 2-8, anchored at the bottom of the AFC East.
Division implications
The Patriots' resurgence-now matching their 2019 streak under Brady-positions them as frontrunners for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Jets' struggles continue, with their offense failing to sustain drives against New England's revitalized defense.
