Actor Patrick Muldoon passes away from heart attack

Patrick Muldoon, renowned for his roles in Days of Our Lives and Starship Troopers, died at 57 on Sunday at his home, his manager told Deadline. The cause was a heart attack.

Career highlights in television and film

Muldoon gained fame as Austin Reed in the NBC daytime soap Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, later making a brief return in 2011. His character, a boxer, became romantically involved with Carrie Brady, played by Christie Clark.

In 1997, he starred in Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi action film Starship Troopers as Zander Barcalow, the romantic rival to Casper Van Dien's lead character. Muldoon also appeared in the hit 1990s series Melrose Place, portraying villain Richard Hart for three seasons (1995-1996).

Early life and diverse career

Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon began acting while studying at the University of Southern California, where he also played football for the Trojans. After graduating in 1991, he secured a recurring role as Jeffrey Hunter on the high school sitcom Saved By the Bell.

Beyond acting, Muldoon fronted a band called The Sleeping Masses and worked as a producer on films like The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, and Marlowe. He was set to produce the upcoming feature Kockroach, starring Chris Hemsworth.

His final on-screen appearance will be in the action-crime thriller Dirty Hands, opposite Starship Troopers co-star Denise Richards.

Alison Sweeney, who worked with Muldoon on Days of Our Lives, paid tribute on X, calling him "a rare kind of person-brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit."

Personal life and survivors

Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; and his niece and nephew, Halo and Arrow Zappa.
