French singer Patrick Bruel rejects assault claims
French singer and actor Patrick Bruel has strongly denied allegations of sexual assault involving multiple women over his five-decade career. The 67-year-old addressed the accusations in an Instagram post, stating he had never coerced, drugged, or exploited anyone.
Accusations surface amid legal review
Bruel has faced a wave of allegations in recent weeks, some of which are now under examination by prosecutors for potential legal action. Among the accusers is television and radio presenter Flavie Flament, who claims Bruel drugged and raped her in 1991 at his Paris home when she was 16 and he was 32.
Flament's account and Bruel's response
Flament told investigative outlet Mediapart that Bruel pursued her after they met on a television set before inviting her to his apartment. She recalled drinking tea and later waking to find Bruel adjusting her trousers while she lay on his bed. Flament believes she was drugged and assaulted.
"I never had any relationship of any kind with Patrick Bruel."

Bruel's lawyer, Christophe Ingrain, dismissed the allegations as fabricated, asserting the relationship was consensual. "Patrick Bruel is very clear: he never forced himself on or drugged Flavie Flament," Ingrain told BFMTV.
Legal proceedings and public reaction
Prosecutors in Nanterre, a Paris suburb, are reviewing approximately 10 cases linked to Bruel, including one previously dismissed in 2020 due to insufficient evidence. Additional investigations are underway in the Brittany town of Saint-Malo and Belgium.
French government spokeswoman Maud Bregeon encouraged victims to come forward, stating, "It is up to the justice system to establish the truth of the facts."
Career impact and tour cancellations
Bruel, who rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like Marre de cette nana-là, remains a prominent figure in French entertainment. However, the allegations have dominated headlines and sparked public debate.
A feminist group launched an online petition demanding the cancellation of his upcoming tour, which includes stops in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Canada. On Tuesday, three of his six Canadian concerts were canceled by promoter Gestev, citing the "current situation and the impossibility of giving it promotion."
Historical context of Flament's advocacy
Flament previously played a pivotal role in exposing sexual exploitation in France when she accused British photographer David Hamilton of raping her at age 13. Her allegations, supported by others, contributed to Hamilton's suicide and prompted legal reforms extending the statute of limitations for sexual crimes against minors from 20 to 30 years.
