OnlyFans owner Leonid Radvinsky dies at 43
Leonid Radvinsky, the Ukrainian-American entrepreneur who transformed OnlyFans into a dominant force in the adult content industry, has died following a prolonged fight with cancer, the company announced. He was 43.
From startup to billion-dollar platform
Radvinsky acquired OnlyFans in 2018 from its British founders, steering the platform through explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. By 2021, his net worth had surged to $4.7 billion, earning him a spot on Forbes' annual billionaires list.
The platform, launched in 2016, allows creators to monetize content-ranging from fitness tutorials to adult material-via subscriptions, tips, and custom requests. OnlyFans retains 20% of all transactions, generating $1.4 billion in revenue in 2024 from over £7 billion in payments, according to filings with Companies House. The site reported 377 million subscribers and 4.6 million creators that year.
Controversies and regulatory scrutiny
Despite its financial success, OnlyFans has faced persistent criticism over content moderation and age verification. In 2024, UK regulator Ofcom launched an investigation into allegations that minors were accessing pornographic material on the platform. The probe was later dropped, but the company was fined £1 million for failing to provide accurate information about its age-verification measures.
Radvinsky's tenure also saw legal disputes with users, including claims that some creators outsourced interactions with subscribers to low-paid third parties. Courts have not ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in these cases to date.
Personal life and legacy
Born in Ukraine and raised in Chicago, Radvinsky graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in economics. He resided in Florida in recent years, where he led Leo.com, a venture capital firm investing in technology startups. His philanthropic efforts included donations to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
OnlyFans confirmed Radvinsky's death in a statement, describing his passing as peaceful. The company requested privacy for his family during this time. Reports last year indicated he had explored selling the platform.
Industry impact
Radvinsky's leadership reshaped the adult content industry, shifting power from traditional studios to individual creators. OnlyFans' subscription-based model has since been adopted by platforms across various sectors, from fitness to music.
"He leaves behind a legacy that redefined digital content creation," industry analysts noted.
