Glasner confirms exit at season's end
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has announced he will leave the club when his contract expires in June, ending a tenure highlighted by the Eagles' first major trophy win.
The 51-year-old Austrian informed chairman Steve Parish in October of his decision not to renew his deal, though the news was kept private until Friday. Glasner led Palace to victory in last season's FA Cup final against Manchester City, securing their first major silverware and a place in this season's UEFA Conference League.
Guéhi's transfer adds to club upheaval
Glasner's announcement coincides with captain Marc Guéhi's impending transfer to Manchester City, a deal finalized on Thursday night. The manager confirmed his departure was unrelated to transfer decisions but acknowledged the timing was influenced by Guéhi's move.
Speaking to the squad on Friday, Glasner expressed his commitment to finishing the season strongly, aiming for the club's highest-ever points tally. "I will give my best to deliver the best season in Crystal Palace history," he said, despite the team's recent nine-match winless streak.
Mixed fortunes under Glasner
Glasner took charge in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson with the team 15th in the Premier League. He guided Palace to a 10th-place finish in his first partial season and a 12th-place finish in his first full campaign, capped by the FA Cup triumph.
This season, however, has been challenging. The Eagles sit 13th in the league and suffered a shock FA Cup exit to non-league Macclesfield. They also finished 10th in the Conference League group stage and face Bosnian side Zrinjski in the play-off round.
Despite the struggles, Glasner remains optimistic. "We are four points better off than at this stage last season," he noted, adding that the club's future is secure. "This club is in great hands."
European ambitions thwarted
Palace's FA Cup win initially earned them a spot in the Europa League, but UEFA demoted them to the Conference League due to breaches of multi-club ownership rules. The decision was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after an appeal.
Glasner's legacy and next steps
Glasner, who previously managed Eintracht Frankfurt, is reportedly a candidate for the Manchester United job. However, he insisted he is simply seeking a "new challenge" and has not engaged with other clubs.
"Not just today, we sometimes see how the best day, the FA Cup final, and the worst day, Macclesfield, is within six months. That is what you have got to deal with in football."

His tenure at Selhurst Park will officially conclude in June, but he remains focused on leaving the club in the strongest possible position.
