Luxury brokers found guilty of decades-long sexual abuse

Tal and Oren Alexander, once high-profile real estate brokers in New York and Miami, have been convicted of drugging and raping dozens of women over nearly 20 years. A New York jury also found their brother Alon guilty of sex trafficking on Tuesday.

The case and verdict

The brothers faced 10 criminal counts, including sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of a minor. Prosecutors accused them of using their wealth and influence to lure women to parties and luxury homes, where they were allegedly drugged and assaulted. All three were found guilty on every count.

Sentencing is set for 6 August, with the brothers facing potential life imprisonment.

Prosecution and defense arguments

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Jones described the brothers' actions as remorseless, driven by "callousness" and a "perverse sense of pride." In contrast, defense attorneys argued the women were willing participants, characterizing the brothers as womanizers rather than rapists.

"They're not drugging them, they're not raping them, but they're certainly pursuing them,"

Marc Agnifilo, defense attorney for Oren Alexander

Victims' testimonies

Eleven women, including several who were minors at the time, testified during the five-week trial. They alleged the brothers gave them gifts, flew them to parties, and surreptitiously drugged their drinks before assaulting them. Prosecutors stated the brothers "physically restrained and held down their victims," ignoring pleas to stop.

Jurors were shown a 2009 video of Oren Alexander allegedly raping a drugged 17-year-old in his Manhattan apartment.

Additional allegations

During the trial, reality TV star and real estate agent Tracy Tutor filed a separate lawsuit accusing Oren Alexander of drugging and sexually assaulting her in New York City in 2024. Alexander's lawyer dismissed the suit as a "demonstrably false lawsuit for maximum media impact."

Reactions and background

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton called the verdict "an important step in our fight against sex trafficking," condemning the brothers' conduct as "calculated, brutal sexual abuse."

"This verdict cannot undo the effects of heinous abuse the Alexanders' many victims endured, but it does send a message: New Yorkers want to bring an end to sex trafficking in all our communities."

Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York

Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo stated the verdict was "not the verdict we were looking for, but we're going to keep fighting."

From luxury real estate to scandal

Tal and Oren Alexander were once top agents at Douglas Elliman, brokering deals for celebrities like Liam Gallagher, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. In 2022, they founded their own firm, Official. Alon Alexander worked at the family's private security company, Kent Security.
