Netanyahu discloses successful tumor removal
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that doctors had detected and fully removed an early-stage malignant tumor during routine follow-up exams after prostate surgery last year.
Medical details and timeline
In a statement posted on X, Netanyahu, 76, said the discovery occurred during standard monitoring following a 2024 procedure to address an enlarged benign prostate. A lesion measuring less than one centimeter was identified, treated, and eliminated with no remaining traces, according to his account.
"I had a minor medical issue with my prostate that was completely treated. Thank God, it's behind me," Netanyahu wrote.
Decision to delay public disclosure
Netanyahu explained that he had requested the postponement of his annual health report's release to avoid providing Iran with additional material for "false propaganda" amid heightened tensions between Israel and Tehran.
"I chose to delay publication so it wouldn't be released during the peak of the U.S. and Israel's confrontation with Iran," he stated.
Personal and national parallels
In his post, Netanyahu drew a connection between his approach to personal health risks and his leadership philosophy. "When I'm given timely information about a potential danger, I address it immediately," he said. "This applies on both a national and personal level."
Political context and upcoming engagements
The announcement comes as Netanyahu prepares for a White House visit in the coming weeks, where U.S. officials aim to advance negotiations for a lasting peace agreement in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Meanwhile, Israel's ceasefire with Lebanon-brokered after clashes with Iran-backed Hezbollah-has been extended by three weeks, according to recent reports.
