Met Police end investigation into Andrew's alleged data request

The Metropolitan Police have announced they will not pursue further action regarding claims that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor asked a protection officer for personal information about his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.

Background to the allegations

The controversy emerged in October when the Mail on Sunday reported that the former prince had allegedly provided Giuffre's date of birth and social security number to a police officer shortly before the newspaper published a photograph of the two together in February 2011.

Police statement and findings

In a statement released on Saturday, the Met confirmed that a fresh review of the case had uncovered no new evidence of criminal behavior or professional misconduct. The force reiterated its commitment to evaluating any additional information that might arise but stated that, for now, the matter would not be reopened.

"The Met remains committed to thoroughly assessing any new information that could assist in this matter. To date, we have not received any additional evidence that would support reopening the investigation. In the absence of any further information, we will be taking no further action."

The statement added that if relevant details emerge-including from materials released in the U.S.-they would be reviewed accordingly.

Andrew's response and ongoing scrutiny

Mountbatten-Windsor has not publicly addressed the latest allegations but has consistently denied all accusations made against him. His legal team has previously dismissed claims of wrongdoing.

Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year, had accused the former prince of sexually assaulting her on three occasions, including when she was 17 at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell in 2001. Maxwell, Epstein's former partner, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex-trafficking offenses linked to the disgraced financier.

Broader fallout from Epstein ties

The former prince has faced prolonged criticism over his association with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. In January, he was stripped of his royal title amid mounting pressure over the connection. He is also set to vacate Royal Lodge, his Windsor estate.

On Friday, newly released photographs by U.S. Democrats highlighted Epstein's connections to prominent figures, including Mountbatten-Windsor. The images, which also featured Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, were cropped from a 2018 Getty Images photograph originally showing the former prince in conversation with King Charles.

While Epstein's circle included many high-profile individuals, the Met emphasized that mere inclusion in such materials does not imply wrongdoing by those depicted.
