Rapper rushed to hospital mid-performance

Megan Thee Stallion was taken to a New York hospital on Tuesday night after falling ill during her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, her representative confirmed.

Updated 01 April 2026 - Megan remains under evaluation as details about her condition emerge.

What happened

The 31-year-old rapper, performing as Harold Zidler-the show's flamboyant emcee-left the stage before completing her act. A spokesperson told U.S. media outlets that Megan began feeling unwell and was quickly transported to a nearby medical facility for assessment.

Her team stated they would provide further updates once more information is available.

Reactions and support

Megan's hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, took to X to ask fans for prayers, writing, "Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital."

The rapper's fanbase, known as the "Hotties," has been vocal in expressing concern online since the news broke.

Broadway milestone cut short

Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, was set to perform as Zidler until 17 May, marking her first foray into theater. She had previously shared her excitement on social media, posting, "HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!" after her 24 March premiere.

The role of Zidler has been played by notable figures, including Tony Award winner Danny Burstein in the original Broadway cast and drag artist Bob the Drag Queen earlier this year.

Career highlights

Best known for hits like Savage, WAP, and Body, Megan Thee Stallion has earned critical acclaim in the music industry. In 2021, she won three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Performance. The following year, she received an Album of the Year nomination.

Next steps

The Moulin Rouge! production team has not yet announced whether Megan's upcoming performances will proceed as scheduled. The BBC has reached out to her representatives for additional comment but has not received a response at the time of publication.
