Canadian actor Martin Short has paid tribute to his daughter Katherine, who died at the age of 42, describing her as a source of light and joy. A statement from Short's representative confirmed her passing, calling it a devastating loss for the family, who have requested privacy during this time.

Katherine's life and career

Katherine Short, the eldest of three children adopted by Martin Short and his late wife, actress and singer Nancy Dolman, worked as a social worker in the United States. Dolman passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.

Circumstances surrounding her death

Law enforcement sources told The Los Angeles Times and TMZ that Katherine's death appears to have been a suicide. No further details about the incident have been released.

Martin Short postpones performances

The actor, known for his roles in films such as The Three Amigos, Father of the Bride, and Innerspace, has postponed several live shows with his comedy partner Steve Martin. The Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, announced the cancellation of their performance originally scheduled for Friday, 27 February, citing "unforeseen circumstances." A second show in Minneapolis, Minnesota, set for Saturday, 28 February, has also been postponed.

Upcoming recognition

Despite the personal tragedy, Short remains nominated for best male actor in a comedy series at this weekend's Actor Awards for his role as Oliver Putnam in Only Murders in the Building.
