Sentencing in high-profile theft case
A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaking into a vehicle and stealing hard drives containing unreleased music by Beyoncé, Fulton County officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Break-in during Cowboy Carter tour
Kelvin Evans targeted a Jeep Wagoneer rented by Beyoncé's choreographer and dancer on July 8, 2025, as the singer's Cowboy Carter tour prepared to kick off in Atlanta. The theft occurred in a parking garage, where Evans smashed the rear window and made off with luggage containing the hard drives, along with laptops, headphones, and luxury clothing.
Surveillance footage links suspect to crime
Prosecutors presented surveillance video showing Evans driving a red Hyundai to the parking garage where the Jeep was parked. Another clip placed him at an apartment complex handling suitcases believed to belong to the victims, Christopher Grant and Diandre Blue. Tracking technology on the stolen laptops later traced the items to the same address.
Victims describe stolen property
Grant and Blue told police the stolen hard drives contained unreleased Beyoncé material, while Grant also reported carrying "personal sensitive information" belonging to the singer. Other stolen items included two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, and designer accessories.
Plea deal avoids trial
Evans pleaded guilty to charges of entering an automobile and criminal trespass, striking a deal with prosecutors ahead of his scheduled trial this week. In addition to his two-year prison term, he received three years of probation. His attorney told the court Evans was seeking "a future where he can make money legitimately and be part of society."
Court imposes restrictions
As part of his sentence, Evans has been barred from contacting the victims or returning to the parking garage where the theft occurred. He has been in custody since his arrest in August 2024. The break-in took place just before Beyoncé's four-night run at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, part of her Cowboy Carter tour.
