Australian star shares health update

Actress and comedian Magda Szubanski revealed on Friday that she is in remission after undergoing treatment for stage four Mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and fast-growing blood cancer.

Diagnosis and treatment

Szubanski, 64, disclosed her diagnosis in May 2025, describing the cancer as aggressive. She completed a course of chemotherapy and shared the news of her remission in a social media post.

"Seems I'm not dead... So, phew, big relief. It's not a cure, but because I got a good remission, that hopefully means that I'll keep the cancer at bay for a good long time."

Career and advocacy

Best known for her role as Sharon Strzelecki in the Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, Szubanski has been a fixture in the country's comedy scene for decades. She also starred in films such as Babe and Happy Feet.

A vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, Szubanski played a key role in Australia's campaign for same-sex marriage legalisation.

Public support

Her diagnosis last year prompted an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including Kylie Minogue and Toni Collette.

What's next

While Szubanski described her remission as positive, she acknowledged that Mantle cell lymphoma is not considered curable. She expressed hope that the remission would last for an extended period.
