Retailers in Lincolnshire to receive radios under new anti-theft initiative
Business owners in Stamford, Bourne, and Market Deeping are being invited to join a coordinated effort to reduce shoplifting by using two-way radios to share real-time alerts.
How the scheme works
The Shopwatch programme, already active in Grantham, equips participating stores with radios that enable instant communication between retailers. Staff can immediately notify nearby businesses about suspicious individuals or incidents.
The system connects directly to the district council's 24-hour CCTV monitoring centre and Lincolnshire Police, allowing for rapid response when needed.
Funding and eligibility
South Kesteven District Council has allocated £25,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to expand the scheme. The funding covers the radio licence fees for the first year, removing an initial cost barrier for businesses.
To qualify, retailers must be members of the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce Shopwatch scheme. Interested businesses can contact the programme coordinator for details on joining.
Local support for the initiative
Councillor Paul Stokes, deputy leader of South Kesteven District Council, described the programme as a practical way for retailers to collaborate. "This gives shop owners the tools to share intelligence quickly and work together to protect their premises," he said.
"The radios will help businesses stay alert and respond faster to potential threats."
