Body discovered in pond believed to be missing rapper
Police in Milton, Georgia, announced Friday that a body found in a nearby pond is likely that of Nathan Smith, the 27-year-old son of rapper Lil Jon, who had been missing since Tuesday. Official confirmation is pending from the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.
No signs of foul play, authorities say
Milton Police Department stated there is currently no evidence suggesting criminal involvement in Smith's death. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Family describes Smith as kind and talented
In a statement shared with BBC News, Lil Jon and Smith's mother, Nicole Smith, expressed their devastation over the loss. The Grammy-winning artist described his son as "the kindest human being you would ever meet" and praised his warmth, thoughtfulness, and passion.
"Nathan was immensely caring, polite, and warmhearted. We loved him with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him."
Lil Jon
Lil Jon highlighted his son's accomplishments, noting that Smith was a music producer, artist, engineer, and a graduate of New York University.
Disappearance raises concerns
Smith was reported missing on Tuesday morning after he left his home on foot without his phone under "unusual circumstances," according to police. An initial missing person alert described him as potentially disoriented and in need of help, prompting worries from family and friends.
Search ends near Atlanta suburb
The pond where the body was found is located close to Smith's residence in Milton, approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta. Lil Jon, known for hits like Yeah! and Turn Down for What, rose to fame in the city's music scene.
The father and son were often seen together, including on a 2025 episode of the game show Family Feud.
Next steps in investigation
Police have stated that no further details will be released until the medical examiner determines the cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
