Lidl Ireland recalls chicken fillets over salmonella risk
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall for two Lidl-branded chicken breast products after salmonella contamination was detected. Both items, though past their use-by date, may still be stored in home freezers.
Products affected
The recall covers two specific batches: Lidl's Free Range 100% Irish Chicken Breast Fillets (291 g) and 100% Irish Diced Chicken Breast Fillets (550 g). Both carry a use-by date of 12 April.
Consumer advice
The FSAI urges shoppers to inspect their freezers for the recalled batches and discard any remaining product. Salmonella infection typically triggers symptoms-fever, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and vomiting-within 12 to 36 hours, though onset can range from six to 72 hours.
Geographic scope
Lidl Ireland confirmed the recall applies solely to its 190 stores in the Republic of Ireland. The Food Standards Agency stated it has received no reports of the affected batches being sold in Northern Ireland.
About salmonella
Salmonella, a common intestinal bacterium, frequently contaminates raw or under-cooked poultry, meat, eggs, unwashed produce, and unpasteurised milk. Proper cooking and hygiene reduce the risk of infection.
