Public ticket draw launches for LA 2028 Olympics

Sports enthusiasts worldwide can now register for a chance to attend the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with ticket prices beginning at $28 (£21). The registration period for the random selection process runs until mid-March.

Affordable pricing emphasized

Organizers revealed that one million tickets will be priced at $28, while approximately one-third of all tickets will cost under $100 (£74.41). Casey Wasserman, LA 2028 chairman, stated, "These Games belong to everyone. These Games have to be affordable and inclusive."

The announcement follows criticism of ticket prices for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will also be held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

How the ticketing process works

Fans must register using their name, email, and zip code to enter the random draw. Successful applicants will receive an email notification with a designated time slot in April to purchase tickets. Earlier time slots improve the likelihood of securing tickets, though availability is not guaranteed.

The first ticket sales window opens from April 9 to 19, including admission for the opening and closing ceremonies.

"This is the fairest way to ensure the broadest access to tickets, with no advantage or disadvantage for anyone," said LA28 chief Allison Katz-Mayfield.

Special access for local residents

A separate early purchase window will be available for residents of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, where some events will take place. Canoeing and softball competitions will be held in Oklahoma.

Historical significance and venue plans

The 2028 Games mark the first U.S. Olympics since Atlanta in 1996. Los Angeles, which previously hosted in 1932 and 1984, will leverage existing infrastructure, including the LA Memorial Coliseum. The venue, set to co-host the opening ceremony and track and field events, was the site of a ceremonial cauldron lighting on Tuesday to commemorate the start of ticket registration.

Most events will take place across Los Angeles and southern California.
