Pop star and former Canadian leader share Japan vacation snapshots
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have publicly acknowledged their relationship after the singer posted a series of photos and videos from their trip to Japan on Instagram.
Social media posts spark speculation
Perry, 41, shared a carousel of images and clips from Tokyo, including a selfie with Trudeau, 53, and a video of the pair sampling sushi. The post carried the caption: "Tokyo times on tour and more."
Trudeau reposted a photograph of the couple with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko, on X. He wrote: "Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone."
Public appearances fuel romance rumors
Speculation about their relationship has been building for months. Trudeau attended Perry's concert earlier this year, and the pair were photographed holding hands at an event in Paris last month, coinciding with Perry's 41st birthday. Celebrity news outlet TMZ published footage of the couple walking hand-in-hand before Trudeau helped Perry into a car.
Neither Perry nor Trudeau has directly addressed the relationship in public statements. The BBC's requests for comment went unanswered.
Perry hints at relationship during London concert
During a recent performance in London, Perry appeared to reference her relationship status. After a fan proposed to her from the audience, she joked: "I wish you'd asked me 48 hours ago," just days after photos of her and Trudeau surfaced online.
Background on both figures
Perry was previously in a decade-long relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter. The couple separated earlier this summer.
Trudeau served as Canada's prime minister from 2015 to 2025. He was married to Sophie Grégoire for 18 years before their separation in the summer of 2023. The couple has three children together.
