Bieber's triumphant Coachella return

Justin Bieber delivered a deeply personal headline performance at Coachella on Saturday, blending new material with throwback tributes to the platform that launched his career.

A night of nostalgia

The 32-year-old pop star opened his set alone on a minimalist stage, performing tracks from his 2025 albums Swag and Swag II. He then shifted gears, inviting the crowd on a "journey" through his discography by singing along to YouTube clips of early hits like Baby and Never Say Never-the same videos that first brought him fame at age 12.

Giant screens behind Bieber played home footage from his childhood, while live comments from the concert's YouTube stream scrolled in real time, creating an interactive experience for both in-person and online audiences.

Candid moments and viral clips

Bieber repeatedly asked fans, "How far back do you go?" before playing a recent viral video in which he confronted a photographer, saying, "It's not clocking to you, I'm standing on business." The clip, which sparked speculation about his mental health, was met with cheers from the crowd.

Dressed casually in a hoodie and shorts, Bieber was later joined by guests including The Kid LAROI, Wizkid, Tems, and Dijon. His wife, Hailey Bieber, watched from the audience alongside celebrities like Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

Health struggles and comeback

The Coachella performance marked Bieber's largest live show in four years, following the cancellation of his Justice world tour due to health issues. In 2022, he revealed he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome-a complication of shingles that caused facial paralysis.

Despite the setback, Bieber returned to the spotlight in July 2025 with the surprise release of Swag and later performed at the Grammy Awards in February.

Contrast with Coachella's other headliners

Bieber's stripped-down set stood in stark contrast to Friday's headline act, Sabrina Carpenter, whose performance featured elaborate choreography and Hollywood-inspired costume changes. Colombian star Karol G will close the festival on Sunday.

The event, held at Indio's Empire Polo Club since 2002, draws over 100,000 attendees daily, according to local police.
