Viral trend revives 2015 hit
Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand has been named TikTok's UK song of the year after powering the viral 'nothing beats a Jet2holiday' meme. The decade-old track soundtracked 6.6 million videos on the platform, turning holiday mishaps into comedic gold.
From chart-topper to internet sensation
Originally released in 2015, the song became Glynne's first solo UK number-one single. Its resurgence began when TikTok users adopted it for jokes about travel chaos, from delayed flights to hotel fails. The trend peaked over the summer, earning the track both UK and global 'song of the summer' titles.
TikTok's data shows the audio has been viewed over 80 billion times, landing it second place in the platform's global 2025 rankings.
Glynne's reaction: 'A new lease of life'
The 36-year-old Londoner told BBC Newsbeat she feels "blessed" by the song's unexpected revival. "It's insane to celebrate a track that means so much to me, 10 years on," she said. "Seeing it reconnect with younger listeners has been amazing."
"The joy I get from performing it now is incredible. Social media has shown me how powerful it can be for artists."

Personal connection to the meme
Glynne revealed she once heard Hold My Hand playing on a Jet2 flight to Corfu with her family. "I was sat at the front with my mum-it was surreal," she recalled. While she avoids most holiday-fail videos, her favourite clips feature parents coaxing kids to recite the Jet2 slogan.
Her all-time favourite? A man discovering his hotel window was "like a prison cell." "It really tickled me," she admitted.
TikTok's formula for viral hits
The platform ranks songs based on video volume and artist engagement. Despite its ubiquity, Hold My Hand didn't re-enter the UK singles chart this year. Other resurrected tracks include Rihanna's Breakin' Dishes (2007) and Radiohead's Let Down (1997).
The global song of 2025, however, was Connie Francis's 1962 hit Pretty Little Baby, used in 28 million videos celebrating pets and relationships.
