Jersey authorities investigate AI-generated videos impersonating school

States of Jersey Police are examining a TikTok account that posted manipulated content featuring staff from Grainville School, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Account details and content

The now-removed account used the school's logo and branding to share five videos, some of which included digitally altered images of staff members. Deepfakes-AI-generated media designed to appear authentic-were used to create the clips.

Official response

Education and Lifelong Learning Minister Deputy Rob Ward reported the incident to both TikTok and local law enforcement. The account has since been taken down from the platform.

"We take any attempt to impersonate our schools or cause harm to members of our community extremely seriously."

Public warning issued

Ward strongly advised the public to avoid viewing, sharing, or engaging with the content, cautioning that media coverage could unintentionally amplify the material and encourage copycat behavior.

"Our focus is on ensuring the swift removal of the content, supporting those affected, and reinforcing safeguarding measures," he said. Authorities currently consider the incident isolated but are monitoring other schools for similar activity.

Next steps

Grainville School has not yet responded to requests for comment. Jersey police continue their investigation, while the education ministry reviews additional protective measures for staff and students.
