22-year-old kicker makes history in Las Vegas

The Jacksonville Jaguars' Cam Little etched his name into NFL history during week nine of the 2025 season when he drilled a 68-yard field goal, breaking Justin Tucker's 2021 record by two yards. The kick, executed just before halftime against the Las Vegas Raiders, earned Little a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where his game-worn jersey is now displayed.

From soccer fields to NFL stardom

Little's journey to professional football was far from conventional. A lifelong soccer player, he had no initial interest in American football. His path changed when a friend invited him to a high-school football practice. Initially, he served as a punter, unaware of the sport's rules or even how to wear pads.

"I didn't know what the rules of football were," Little told BBC Sport. "I went out there and punted-I didn't even kick." His first punt in a game ended disastrously when the ball was snapped over his head, prompting him to quit. However, encouragement from his father and high-school coach convinced him to persist.

Rise through college and the draft

Little spent the following season studying NFL kickers, including Tucker, before joining the University of Arkansas. His college performance caught the Jaguars' attention, leading to his selection in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Reflecting on his rapid ascent, Little said, "It all happened so fast. Good opportunity after good opportunity started hitting me. I put myself in the right positions at the right time, took advantage of them when I needed to, and here we are today."

"Going from someone that didn't even think he was going to play professional sports, maybe not even college sports, to breaking a record that I never thought was ever going to get broken after Justin Tucker hit the 66-that's mental to think about."

Jaguars' playoff push and Little's ambition

The Jaguars clinched the AFC South title in the 2025 regular season's final week, defeating the Tennessee Titans 41-7 to secure their third division championship in 26 years. Little contributed a 67-yard field goal in that game, giving him the two longest kicks in NFL history.

Under new leadership-head coach Liam Coen and executive vice-president of football operations Tony Boselli-the Jaguars transformed from a four-win team in 2024 to a 13-win squad in 2025, entering the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak.

"Something that coach Coen's harped on is just going 1-0 every week," Little said. "When you combine those three levels-front office, coaching staff, and leaders on the team-that forms to success."

Wild Card showdown looms

The Jaguars will face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card round on Sunday at 18:00 GMT. For Little, it marks his first career postseason game with stakes.

"This is the first time in my career that I've played postseason football that matters-where you win or go home. It brings a side of Jacksonville that I'm excited to see."
