Italian police interrupted a celebration marking the end of filming for the upcoming movie Three Incestuous Sisters on Wednesday, citing a local ordinance that prohibits music on Wednesdays. The event, attended by Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, was held on the small island of Stromboli, off the coast of Sicily.
Local officials criticize police action
Rosa Oliva, head of Stromboli's tourism office, confirmed the incident and described the police intervention as a "punitive measure." She expressed frustration, stating that the island's community has endured a difficult winter marked by shortages and neglect, and such actions further penalize moments of social gathering and visibility.
According to local media reports, music was playing at a modest volume through a single speaker when Carabinieri officers arrived to enforce the ban. Guests, including the film's cast and crew, reacted with confusion and amusement but complied with the request.
Controversy over Wednesday music ban
Stromboli is one of the Aeolian Islands administered by the municipality of Lipari, where Mayor Riccardo Gullo has implemented a ban on music every Wednesday. Oliva criticized the mayor's decision, suggesting that the island's guests-who contribute significantly to the local economy-deserved a warmer welcome or at least gratitude for their presence.

Three Incestuous Sisters is directed by Alice Rohrwacher, a filmmaker previously nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is based on a U.S. graphic novel of the same name, which follows the lives of three sisters who become obsessed with a lighthouse keeper's son, disrupting their isolated existence.
Sir Mick Jagger has reportedly been cast as the lighthouse keeper, while his character's son will be played by Josh O'Connor, known for his roles in The Crown and Challengers. The film also features Isabella Rossellini, whose parents, Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini, famously fell in love on Stromboli in 1949 while filming the classic movie Stromboli. Rossellini shared images of her visit to the island's active volcano on social media, reflecting on her family's connection to the location.
The cast includes Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, and Saoirse Ronan, who joined Jagger and O'Connor in celebrating the wrap of filming.
