Iran submits response to US peace plan
Tehran has delivered its reply to American proposals aimed at ending the months-long war, Iranian state media confirmed on Sunday. No specifics of either side's position have been disclosed publicly.
Ceasefire holds amid sporadic clashes
A truce brokered in February to enable negotiations remains largely intact, despite occasional exchanges of fire. The conflict erupted after coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
Strait of Hormuz remains flashpoint
Iran continues to blockade the critical waterway, disrupting roughly 20% of global oil and gas shipments. The US has countered with a naval blockade of Iranian ports, escalating tensions and driving up energy prices.
Tehran has warned vessels attempting to cross the strait without its approval face "severe consequences." A military spokesman dismissed American naval power as incapable of enforcing a true blockade across the northern Indian Ocean.
Key demands in US proposal
According to unnamed US officials cited by Axios, Washington's 14-point memorandum centers on halting Iranian nuclear enrichment, lifting sanctions, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Many terms would only take effect after a final agreement is signed.
A senior Iranian lawmaker previously dismissed the document as a "wish list."
Rhetoric escalates on both sides
President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Sunday that Iran "will never bow our heads before the enemy." In a post on X, he framed any dialogue as a means to defend national interests, not capitulation.
"If talk of dialogue or negotiation arises, it does not mean surrender or retreat. Rather, the goal is to uphold the rights of the Iranian nation and to defend national interests with resolute strength."

US President Donald Trump predicted this week that the war would end "quickly" and claimed broad understanding of his aim to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
Regional tensions flare
Iran has cautioned neighboring states against complying with US sanctions. Recent incidents include:
- A bulk carrier, reportedly US-flagged, was struck by an unidentified projectile northeast of Doha, causing minor damage but no injuries.
- Kuwait reported drones entering its airspace, which its military intercepted.
- The UAE said its air defenses shot down two drones originating from Iran.
International coalition to discuss maritime security
Defense ministers from over 40 nations will convene on Monday in a UK-led session to explore policing the Strait of Hormuz once hostilities cease. UK Defense Secretary John Healey and French counterpart Catherine Vautrin will co-chair the talks.
Trump warned on Truth Social on May 6 that if Iran rejects a deal, "the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before."
