Indian pilot killed in Tejas fighter jet crash at Dubai Airshow
A pilot died on Friday after an Indian Air Force (IAF) Tejas fighter jet crashed during an aerial display at the Dubai Airshow, officials confirmed. The incident occurred at approximately 14:10 local time (10:10 GMT) on the final day of the event.
Official responses and investigation
The IAF expressed deep regret over the loss, stating it "stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief." A court of inquiry will be established to determine the cause of the accident, according to an IAF statement.
India's Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Anil Chauhan, echoed the sentiment, affirming that all ranks of the Indian Army "deeply regret the incident" and extend solidarity to the pilot's family.

Dubai's Media Office and the UAE Ministry of Defence reported that firefighters and emergency services responded swiftly to the crash site. Video footage captured black smoke billowing from the area following the incident.
The Dubai Airshow 2025, hosted at Al Maktoum International Airport, drew over 148,000 attendees and exhibitors from 1,500 companies since its opening on Monday.

The crashed aircraft was a Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Tejas, a lightweight multirole fighter developed by India. The jet was performing a display maneuver when the accident occurred.
