Hearts one point away from first Scottish title in 64 years
Heart of Midlothian must avoid defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday to clinch the Scottish Premiership, a feat no non-Old Firm club has achieved since 1986. A dramatic late penalty for Celtic on Wednesday reshaped the title race, leaving Derek McInnes' side needing at least a draw in front of 60,000 home fans.
How the title race swung in a single night
Earlier on Wednesday, Hearts appeared poised to secure the championship after a dominant 3-0 victory over Falkirk at Tynecastle. However, their advantage evaporated when Celtic converted a controversial 99th-minute penalty to edge Motherwell 3-2 at Fir Park. The late winner cut Hearts' lead to just one point, forcing them to travel to Glasgow for a winner-takes-all showdown.
Hearts' unbeaten run against Celtic offers hope
McInnes' side has defied expectations all season, remaining unbeaten in three league meetings with Celtic. In October, they crushed Brendan Rodgers' team 3-1 at home, then secured a 2-1 victory at Celtic Park in December-Wilfried Nancy's first match as Celtic manager. A late equalizer from Claudio Braga in their most recent encounter further frustrated the defending champions.
"We've been there and won a couple of times during my time as a Hearts player. We go there confident and we've been top of the league all season. It's a 90-minute cup final. If you offered us that at the start of the season, we would have taken it."

Injuries and fatigue test Hearts' resolve
The Edinburgh club will be without key defender Craig Halkett and midfielder Marc Leonard, both sidelined with Achilles injuries. Manager Derek McInnes started Harry Milne and Cammy Devlin as replacements in midweek, but the physical and emotional toll of the season may prove decisive in Glasgow.
Former Hearts midfielder Michael Stewart remains optimistic, telling Sportscene: "There's no reason why Hearts can't win the title. They are capable of getting the result they need to win the trophy."
Celtic's home advantage looms large
While Hearts boast an unbeaten home record (15 wins, 4 draws), their away form has been shaky, with five losses and four draws in 18 matches. Celtic Park, however, is familiar territory-Hearts, Rangers, and Hibernian have all won there this season.
Former Celtic captain Scott Brown believes the atmosphere will be decisive. "It's going to be so nervy," he said. "I think 60,000 fans at Celtic Park will make a difference."

Despite his frustration over Celtic's late penalty, McInnes embraced the drama. "We're delighted to be part of it," he said. "To do it, we're going to have to go and get a positive result. What a game it's going to be."
