Hampshire bolster squad with South African all-rounder
Hampshire have secured the services of South African all-rounder Delano Potgieter for three County Championship matches and the opening phase of the T20 Blast, the club announced on Thursday.
Availability and role
Potgieter will be available for Hampshire's upcoming County Championship fixture against Nottinghamshire, starting Friday, 15 May. He will remain with the squad until fellow South African batter Tristan Stubbs joins following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the end of May.
Career highlights and experience
The 29-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Hampshire side, having played 50 first-class matches to date. In that format, he has claimed 128 wickets and amassed over 2,500 runs. Potgieter has also made an impact in T20 cricket, taking 49 wickets and scoring 1,329 runs across 97 appearances.
Connection with Hampshire's coaching staff
Potgieter's signing follows a recent collaboration with Hampshire's new head coach, Russell Domingo, during the CSA 4-Day Series, South Africa's domestic first-class competition. This prior working relationship is expected to ease his integration into the squad.
Upcoming fixtures
Hampshire's T20 Blast campaign kicks off on Friday, 22 May, with an away match against Somerset-a rematch of last season's final. Potgieter will also feature in County Championship matches against Surrey and Sussex in June, providing all-round depth to the squad during this period.
