Halifax appoint McGrath following Lakeland's departure
Halifax Town have announced the appointment of John McGrath as their new first-team manager, replacing Adam Lakeland, who left to join Morecambe earlier this month.

Lakeland, who guided Halifax to an eighth-place finish in the National League last season-just one spot outside the play-offs-has signed a three-year contract with Morecambe following their relegation from the same division.
McGrath's track record at Buxton
McGrath, 46, joins Halifax after a successful spell at Buxton, where he led the club to consecutive National League North play-off finishes. The former Burton Albion midfielder also steered Buxton to the second round of the FA Cup during his tenure.
In the 2025-26 season, Buxton reached the play-offs but were eliminated by South Shields in the semi-finals.
