Haaland dismisses Messi-Ronaldo comparisons: 'No-one will match their records'

Erling Haaland has downplayed comparisons to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that their goalscoring feats remain untouchable. The 25-year-old Manchester City striker, who has netted 327 career goals, trails far behind Messi's 892 and Ronaldo's 952-figures he calls "impossible" to surpass.

Current form and Premier League pursuit

With 26 goals already this season for club and country, Haaland is on pace to exceed his record-breaking 56-goal haul in 2022-23. His 98 Premier League strikes in 107 games put him within striking distance of Alan Shearer's 124-game century milestone-the fastest in English top-flight history.

Yet Haaland insists records are secondary:

"Thinking about records I can break is the last thing on my mind. I try to help the team win football games. That is my job," he said.

Champions League dominance and Norway's World Cup dream

In the Champions League, Haaland's 53 goals in 51 matches mark the quickest half-century ever. After winning the Treble in his debut City season, he now eyes Norway's first World Cup appearance since 1998-a personal mission he calls "the main goal in my career."

Reflecting on his growth, he added:

"I am developing good. I am in a good place, taking care of myself, and definitely getting better."

'Still the same kid from Bryne'

Despite global fame, Haaland rejects any shift in identity:

"I am still the same kid from Bryne, just with more experience. I shouldn't think I'm something special because I score goals. I'm just Erling."

His focus remains on Norway's World Cup qualifier and Wednesday's Champions League clash against former club Borussia Dortmund (20:00 GMT).
