Ghana part ways with manager Otto Addo
Ghana's football federation announced the immediate termination of head coach Otto Addo on Tuesday, less than three months before the national team's opening match at the 2026 World Cup.
Recent defeats trigger decision
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) acted after the Black Stars suffered consecutive friendly losses-5-1 to Austria in Vienna on March 28 and 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart on April 1. The results extended a four-match losing streak and left Ghana without a win in their last four outings.
Despite fielding attacking talent such as Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Tottenham forward Mohammed Kudus, Addo's side also failed to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
GFA outlines next steps
In a brief statement released after the Germany match, the GFA confirmed Addo's departure was "effective immediately" and added that details of the team's new technical leadership would be shared "in due course."
Addo's tenure and background
Addo, 50, was born in Germany and spent his entire professional playing career there, earning 15 caps for Ghana. He took charge of the Black Stars for a second time in March 2024, having previously managed the team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
World Cup schedule remains unchanged
The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, runs from June 11 to July 19. Ghana's Group B fixtures are:
- June 18 (00:00 BST) vs. Panama
- June 23 (21:00 BST) vs. England
- June 27 (22:00 BST) vs. Croatia
