Police hunt suspect after three killed in Lake Cargelligo

New South Wales authorities are searching for Julian Ingram, 37, accused of fatally shooting three people in the small outback town of Lake Cargelligo on Thursday. Police confirmed Ingram was free on bail for domestic violence charges at the time of the attacks.

Victims identified as former partner and relatives

Among the dead is 25-year-old Sophie Quinn, Ingram's former partner, who was seven months pregnant and due to deliver a son in March. Local reports indicate Quinn and a friend were found shot inside a vehicle. A relative of Quinn was killed in a second shooting shortly afterward. A 19-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition.

"All the victims appear connected to the offender," NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland told media on Friday. "That's the focus of our investigation."

Families grieve as search intensifies

Quinn's mother, Cathy Quinn, described her daughter as kind and outgoing. "She didn't have a mean bone in her body," she told Nine newspapers.

Police say the families of the victims are struggling with the loss. "They're not doing well," Holland said.

Suspect evades capture despite massive manhunt

Around 100 officers, including tactical teams, are combing the area for Ingram, who was last seen on a road out of Lake Cargelligo. Holland noted Ingram, a local council employee, knows the region well and could remain hidden for an extended period.

"It's feasible he could stay undetected in the area," Holland said.

Firearms obtained illegally, police say

Ingram, also known as Julian Pierpoint, had no gun license. Authorities are investigating how he acquired the weapons used in the shootings.

"We're looking into where and how he gained access to the firearms,"

Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland
