Florida woman faces attempted murder charges in Rihanna mansion shooting
A 35-year-old Orlando resident, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, has been accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at pop star Rihanna's Los Angeles residence on Sunday afternoon, prosecutors announced.
Incident details
The shooting occurred at 1:15 p.m. local time (9:15 p.m. GMT) while Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, were inside the home. No injuries were reported, though authorities confirmed multiple people were present in the house and neighboring properties at the time.
Ortiz allegedly drove to the front of the mansion and discharged the weapon repeatedly before fleeing the scene. Her white Tesla was later located approximately eight miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center, where she was arrested.
Legal consequences
Ortiz is being held on $1.875 million bail and faces a potential life sentence if convicted. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman condemned the act, stating, "Opening fire in any populated neighborhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk, and will be fully prosecuted."
Additional charges include ten felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.
Investigation into motive
Police are examining Ortiz's social media activity, where posts referencing Rihanna have been discovered. In one message on X, Ortiz wrote, "Are you there? ... say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I'm not at."
Footage from the singer's property the following day showed suitcases being removed, though authorities have not confirmed their relevance to the incident.
Background on Rihanna
Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados, the Grammy-winning artist gained global fame in the 2000s with hits like Pon de Replay and Umbrella. She shares three children with A$AP Rocky, who was acquitted last year of charges related to firing a gun at a former associate-a trial during which Rihanna attended court with their two sons.
Community response
"This careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons."
Nathan J. Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney
