Five individuals were wounded in a stabbing attack at New York City's Penn Station on Sunday evening, according to officials. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM local time (midnight GMT), prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) reported that one person sustained serious injuries, two suffered moderate wounds, and the remaining two incurred minor injuries. All victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
Suspect apprehended after manhunt
The New York Police Department (NYPD) detained the suspect following a brief manhunt. Law enforcement sources told CBS News, the BBC's U.S. partner, that the attack appeared to be a random act of violence. ABC News reported that the suspect, described as emotionally disturbed, was arrested by Amtrak police.

The stabbing coincides with increased security measures in New York City as officials prepare for U.S. President Donald Trump's visit on Monday. Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden, located directly above Penn Station.
In anticipation of the president's arrival, city officials announced enhanced precautions, including a no-bag policy and the cancellation of an outdoor watch party near the arena. Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also expected to attend the game.
