Former Michigan coach faces criminal charges
Sherrone Moore, dismissed earlier this week from the University of Michigan, has been formally charged with three offenses, including home invasion and stalking linked to a domestic relationship, court records show.
University termination and arrest
The university fired Moore on Wednesday, citing "credible evidence" of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Hours later, police detained him in a nearby suburb following an alleged assault.
Pittsfield Township officers responded to an assault report at 16:10 local time (21:10 GMT). Saline police assisted in locating and arresting Moore, according to a statement obtained by ESPN.
Court appearance and bail conditions
Moore, 39, appeared in court on Friday and was granted $25,000 bail. A magistrate ordered him to wear a GPS monitor and stay away from his former girlfriend, NBC News reported.
Neither Moore nor his attorney has commented publicly on the charges.
University response and policy violation
The school's athletic director told the BBC that Moore's alleged conduct "constitutes a clear violation of university policy," adding that the institution "maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."
Specific details about the inappropriate relationship and the alleged assault have not been disclosed.
Impact on Michigan football program
Moore, in his second season as head coach, was set to lead the Wolverines in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against the University of Texas on 31 December. The team has named associate head coach Biff Poggi as his replacement.
