Dubai authorities have taken Zenab Javadli, the former spouse of a nephew of Dubai's ruler, into custody following a complaint by her ex-husband, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Public Prosecution confirmed to the BBC.

Javadli, a former international gymnast, has been embroiled in a protracted legal battle with her ex-husband over their three young daughters. The situation escalated after the children were exchanged between the parents multiple times, with each accusing the other of abduction.
Last year, Sheikh Saeed filed a police complaint alleging that Javadli had kidnapped their daughters during a court-sanctioned visitation. Javadli, however, claimed she acted out of desperation, livestreaming one of the confrontations to draw attention to her plight.

Lawyers representing Sheikh Saeed have argued in court that Javadli is an unfit mother. They claim she failed to ensure her daughters attended school, resided in unsuitable accommodations such as hotels, and endangered the health of their youngest child.
Javadli also faces potential charges under the UAE's e-crimes laws, stemming from her livestream of the custody dispute. Dubai Public Prosecution stated that the investigation remains ongoing, with legal measures being taken in accordance with local laws while prioritizing the children's welfare.

Javadli's family and friends reported losing contact with her since Tuesday night, prompting concerns about her whereabouts. For nearly two days, no information was available regarding her or her children's location.
Human rights lawyer David Haigh, who has been advocating for Javadli, urged UAE authorities to grant her immediate access to legal representation, her consulate, and her family. He also called for her release to her home in Dubai.
