Djokovic reaches quarter-finals without playing
Novak Djokovic will progress directly to the Australian Open quarter-finals after 16th seed Jakub Mensik pulled out due to an abdominal injury. The Serbian star, who has yet to lose a set in Melbourne this year, was set to face the 20-year-old Czech in Monday's evening session.
Mensik's withdrawal hands Djokovic walkover
Mensik, who stunned Djokovic in last year's Miami Masters final and recently claimed an Auckland title, announced his withdrawal on Instagram. He revealed the injury worsened over his previous matches, forcing him to retire despite reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.
"This is a tough one to write. After doing everything we could to keep going, I have to withdraw due to an abdominal muscle injury that has progressed over the last matches."

The Czech player defeated Pablo Carreño Busta, Rafael Jódar, and Ethan Quinn in straight sets before his exit.
Djokovic eyes record 25th Grand Slam title
With Mensik's withdrawal, Djokovic now awaits either fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti or ninth seed Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals. If the draw unfolds as seeded, the 38-year-old could face 2025 champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals and world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Djokovic, tied with Margaret Court at 24 major titles, last won a Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open. He exited the semi-finals of all four Slams in 2025 but remains optimistic about his form this year.
"I feel really good. It's been a great start to the tournament. Obviously, things can change. I'm not getting ahead of myself because last year I learned a lesson."

Temperatures in Melbourne are forecast to peak at 42°C on Tuesday, adding to the challenges for remaining contenders. Two-time champion Naomi Osaka withdrew on Saturday, while Sinner and others have struggled with the conditions.
What's next for Djokovic?
The Serb will prepare for his quarter-final clash, with potential matchups against Sinner and Alcaraz looming. His serve and consistency will be key as he chases a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title.
