Disney World confirms worker injured by 400-pound boulder prop
A Walt Disney World employee was hurt Tuesday when a 400-pound (180 kg) rubber boulder rolled off its track during a live stunt show at the Florida park, officials said.
Incident details
The accident occurred at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, a performance recreating scenes from the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Video footage shows the boulder breaking free and heading toward the audience before a staff member intervened, pushing it off course.
The worker, who did not immediately get up after the collision, was quickly surrounded by colleagues. Disney confirmed the employee is now recovering.
Disney's response
In a statement released Wednesday, the company said its priority is supporting the injured cast member. "Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened," Disney said.
A park spokesperson told CBS News, the BBC's U.S. partner, that "a prop moved off its track" but did not confirm the boulder was the cause.
Witness reactions
Spectators described the moment as chaotic. One attendee told People magazine the worker "saved" the audience from potential harm. In a video of the incident, a bystander can be heard saying, "He literally saved our lives, that guy."
Show background
The stunt recreates a famous scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Harrison Ford's character, Indiana Jones, narrowly escapes a giant rolling boulder. According to a park-operated blog, the prop weighs approximately 400 pounds and is made of rubber.
