The highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit film Devil Wears Prada has arrived in cinemas, bringing back its iconic cast-and a star-studded, female-fronted soundtrack that's drawing nearly as much attention as Miranda Priestly's sharp wit.
A soundtrack packed with powerhouse women
The album features global stars like Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Dean, alongside rising talents such as Izzy Escobar, whose track Evergreen Avenue plays a pivotal role in the film's emotional climax.
For Escobar, a Massachusetts-born singer-songwriter of Cuban and Italian descent, this marks her first contribution to a major motion picture. "This is my first time ever having a song in a major film," she told BBC Newsbeat, still sounding awestruck.
A dream realized: Escobar's journey to the soundtrack
Escobar, known for her deeply personal and emotive songwriting, often draws inspiration from her heritage and plays both violin and piano. Last year, she called Lady Gaga her "dream artist to tour with" in a Forbes interview-though for now, sharing an album with her will have to suffice.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around it," Escobar admitted. "Dreams do come true." She described seeing her name alongside Gaga's as a "pinch me" moment, reinforcing her belief that perseverance pays off.
From vision to reality: Crafting Evergreen Avenue
Director David Frankel reached out to Escobar after hearing her 2025 single Sunny in London, praising its "sonic palette" and asking her to create something in a similar style for the film. Escobar, who describes herself as a "visual writer," typically imagines entire narratives while composing-so adapting her process to fit the world of Devil Wears Prada felt natural.
"I did my research and brainstormed how to integrate my musicality into the film's pre-existing world," she explained. The result, Evergreen Avenue, plays during a key emotional scene near the film's end. Without spoiling details, Escobar teased that her song appears on the radio in Anne Hathaway's character's home-a moment she called "pretty cool."
A full-circle moment at the premiere
Escobar experienced her song's on-screen debut at the film's New York premiere, surrounded by some of her favorite artists. "To finally see it visualized on-screen with some of my favorite artists in the room, it was the best feeling in the world," she said.
The original 2006 film holds special meaning for Escobar, who saw it as a child and connected with its themes of self-expression through music and fashion. "When I saw Devil Wears Prada, I just remember thinking, 'Oh my gosh, this is another way of expressing yourself, like music,'" she recalled.
Music and fashion: A symbiotic relationship
Escobar believes the film highlights the interplay between the music and fashion industries-a dynamic she sees reflected in modern collaborations, like Lady Gaga and Doechii's Runway, which blends high fashion with empowering lyrics.
"I love the video they did incorporating all the different types of fashion and expressing themselves," she said. "At the same time, it's a song that highlights feeling confident and empowered."
What to expect from the soundtrack
With a lineup of powerhouse artists, Escobar promises the album will deliver energy, inspiration, and empowerment. "It's going to make you dance and feel very, very empowered and inspired and excited," she said.
